Whilst doing a 15 mile journey today I lost 3rd & 4th gear for the last mile. Was fine before. No noise from box or smells. 1st, 2nd and reverse all select fine. Had a good look underneath and found the selector box thingy on the underside of the van was loose and only just held on by 2 nuts. Removed this, clened the old gunge off of the joint, re-greased and refitted with 4 new nuts. Still no 3rd or 4th though.
Where do I start? Haven't the money for a replacement box.
The vans a 1984 1.9cc watercooled petrol.

Re: Where's My Gears Gone?
Loosen the linkage at the box, and loosen the pinchbolt holding the rear and mid linakge rods together. Get someone to move the gearstick so the rods seperate.
This will give enough movement to manually work the gearbox gear selector with your fingers (on the drivers side of gearbox). If you can get it to go in all gears fine, then the issue is with the linkage. If not then could be expensive.
If it is the linkage, put the gearbox in a gear with your hands, then get someone to operate the gearstick into the corresponding gear position. As they do this, guide the two rods back together and tighten everything up. Then go test the gearstick and readjust if nessecary.

Re: Where's My Gears Gone?
Thanks RR.
Will be out first thing in the morning to have another play. I have an excellent mechanic also coming round to lend a hand but would like a head start.
