Buzzer of doom mod........

Post by AngeloEvs »

The Buzzer of Doom 'DOPS'. Ok, here is an alternative simple, low cost mod should you wish to throw it in the bin but still need to know you have minimum oil pressure (and are a tight like me....new one about £50 from what I can see for £1-50 worth of components!). Although Diesel DOPS have a different PCB circuit the same mod can be used.

You need:

a) a 12V Red Led (from Maplin CJ63T)

b) a !2V green Led (Maplin CK49D)

c) a short wire link

1. Take out the fitted oil warning red Led and replace it with the 12V one.

2. Solder a couple of wires to your 12V green Led (or get a LED 'plug and play' socket From Rapid Electronics 55-0167.)

3. Pull the connector from the DOPs PCB

4. Fit the wire link across the socket and connect your green LED as shown below (yours will have longer wires).

Red Led will function as normal, Switch engine on, RED light goes out and Green Led will come on (you have the minimum oil pressure requirement to go camping!) Most of the time your green led will always be on at tell tale brightness....which is re-assuringly good!

As you negotiate up Porlock hill, Green Led goes 'off' but Red light also 'Of'f, you have oil pressure between 0.3 and 0.9 Bar (may be time to stop as your buzzer would normally alert you to do that!).

You get to top of Porlock Hill Green Led still 'off' and Red light comes on..stop at the lay-by at the top (fantastic views there!), make cuppa, phone RAC and get quote from Elite Engines.

Where to Fit the green LED.

Use one of the expansion slots under the warning display (5mm hole required) or in the bottom right hand corner of the speedo housing where it is dark and, of course, you are a considerate careful driver and always monitor your speed and the LED will always be visible.

Why I do these things.....indulge me..

Fritz: Have you seen the new T4 prototype? nice!/i]

Hans: I have already ordered one!

Fritz: We need to upgrade the Oil Pressure warning system, people are converting our T25's into Kampervans and people can no longer hear the engine falling apart due to the added weight and sound deadening effects of the bed.

Hans: Whats the budget?

Fritz : No problem with budget but the future is digital not analogue, no gauges Hans, microhips are the future!

Hans: Ok, we need something sophisticated, something that can be fitted to the existing dash and shows our competitors that we are leading the way with electronic control systems.

Fritz: .and something that our VW sevice agents can charge a lot of Marks for when it goes Kaput!

Sid: See the Villa last night? Crap!

Me: Nah, went to look at a second hand BMW, bought it!.nice wheels!

Sid. Ok, got a memo here, the new K series engine needs a better Oil pressure warning system, don't ask me why, ain't got a clue! That centre half wants sacking..pratt!

Me: What's the Budget?

Sid: ....erm..........a quid!

Me: Right, sommat simple......got an LED floating about somewhere..see if I can find it..yeah, he is a %$%^^&& that centre half........where that LED gone?......it was on your playboy mag!

Sid: .....erm?..probably on the floor in the bog!
