Vacuum hose

Hi all, the vacuum unit at the back of the air filter box seems like it should have a hose connected to the large opening on its right (for temperature regulation if I'm not mistaken). This has never been fitted to mine and some pictures of other CU engines on the wiki don't seem to have one either.

Is any harm being done by it not being fitted? If it was fitted, where does the hose lead? The van's been running fine without one but I'm worried about potential overheating.

this hose would have originally gone from the side of the air filter box, clipped around the side of the van in the engine bay and up into the air channel
when you drive the air vents would allow more air to circulate around the engine.
my Aircooled did not have this hose and ran fine
but now I have the LPG on one side and the flashlube kit on the other, both restrice the air flow from the channels so i upgraded to bigger air scoops

I am a bit puzzled by this thread on ''vacuum hose''.

Vacuum hose is 3.5mm in diameter & resembles the rubber, cloth covered fuel hose. The large (40mm?) diameter paper/foil air hose that is found around the air filter box can bring in cool air but there is also the warm air hose that feeds a cold engine with warm air from around the exhaust.

I guessed he much be talking about "The large (40mm?) diameter paper/foil air hose that is found around the air filter box " as he mentioned "the large opening on its right"
which of course is not a vacuum hose

I should really have put vacuum box hose, although funnily enough I also have to find some better proper vaccum hose since the stuff I got from Wilco a few months back has started to perish
