Good morning from Holland,
We got the bus back yesterday, the vacuum cleaner sound has disappeared (new bearings) but now there is an intermittent scraping sound when, and only when we go around a tight right bend.
VW, great fun voor the audiophile...
Sounds like cross .... cross .... cross ... cross.
Buses don't have feelings do they?
Any ideas anyone?

Re: Next problem!
Hmmmm ! I had exactly the same problem on my 79'er. Cured it with new rear wheel bearings !!!!!!!
I think it's the edge of the brake drum rubbing on the back plate. I did have the front brake shield rust through and detach wedged against the disc with a hell of a scraping sound. just pulled it out. don't i just love repairs like that

Re: Next problem!
Hi guys,
I think it's the back - a scraping sound when coming to a halt (but not always) and sometimes when going round a tight right corner, not always though.
We've just had the bearings done on the front (remember?) - could it have anything to do with that?
The brake pedal throbs (vibrates) a bit too, but not always. As though the pad and disc aren't completely flush?
Thanks for any help,
Steve

Re: Next problem!
It sounds like the rear drums need removing for investigation...propably rust build up catching the backplate. As for the brake pedal vibration, this indicates disc or drum 'runout' warping, to diagnose which it is: does the steering wheel shake as well when the footbrake is applied? if yes then the problem is the front discs, if no then more likely rear drums. You can also confirm that it is the rears by pulling the handbrake on at speed and if you feel a pulse through the hand brake lever it definately is the drums.

Re: Next problem!
Problem seems to be sorted, by cleaning the drums and back plate.
I will be keeping an eye on the rear wheel bearings.
