Hi all, I have had a look in the Wiki...I may be going daft so I apologise if this info is somwhere that I can't see!
We are newbies to this forum and are looking to buy a van .....we wondered re: timing belt changes at what mileage a 1.9 watercooled and a 2.1 fuel injection should be changed?
Many thanks. If anyone has any other advice regarding engine size or cam belts please feel free to impart your knowledge!
Cheers.

Change them after the first of never.

No cam belts on the VW Petrol watercooled flat 4. None on the Aircooled either.
Diesels I believe have them.

Re: Cam belt change? when?
As above, no vw flat 4 engine has a belt. no water cooled or any air cooled petrols all the diesel are timing belt. hope this clears up any confusion you have.

Re: Cam belt change? when?
You could always come on one of our IMI courses lol.
Yup....VW flat 4 is an overhead valve engine..this means although they do have a camshaft, the opening of the valves are taken care of by the movement of push rods and not a cam belt (pretty old fashioned arrangement but then this engine design has been around a while lol)
