Should I have 12v at the bypass cut out valve?

The engine is a 1.9 dg. Pierburg 2e3 carb

Should the bypass cut out valve be at 12v when the engine is running normally?


The wiring on the van is like this.

a red wire comes from the loom to a sensor, (see the picture i think temp sender) onto a spade terminal in the middle of this picture.



then a red wire comes from a different terminal on the same sensor to the bypass cut of switch. This also has a piggy back spade on it that has another red wire just hanging as though it has come off something.

So in total I have three wires at the sensor.
one from the loom tot he sensor
then another from the sensor to the bypass cut out valve
and another doubled up with this one just dangling

Has the dangling one come off and should it be attached to something?

YES that is why it is called a fuel shut off,,,,,,it works perfectly with 12V supply (ignition ON/ Engine ) running.

Then shuts the fuel off to prevent 'Running on' with ignition off...

The red wire should supply two 'cut off valves' on the carb as well as the manifold heater which is situated directly under neather the carburettor.

The manifold heater, does it have a wire coming from the manifold, at the back of the carb. Looks like it disapears between the manifold and the engine block and is double insulated red wire.

This red wire on my van is not connected to anything.
