Opinion on an interior idea please!

Post by dumpy »

Hi,

I think i've had a good idea. But then I always think I've had a good idea, and I usually end up with parts left over.

This one I think might be a winner though.

In my bus (1989 1.9 Diesel), there is currently a full width half bulkhead. I've just bought my obligatory Saab leather seats which I pick up tomorrow. I'm going to try and shoehorn a swivel on the psgr seat, which of course means removing some of all of the bulkhead. Behind the drivers seat however I want to either extend or replace the bulkhead with some thick ply from floor to ceiling, against the bottom of this I will install a buddy box/cupboard/something. Hoowever I wanted somewhere to mount a camping stove - so my idea is to fit one of these....

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70137919" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

....higher up that board I've fitted. Clearly it's not made for a job, sometimes there's little difference between my computer and cooking skills anyway (both crapola). The van's red (though the inside is white), so I reckon it'll look good, and be pretty handy.

Where the Swedish designers saw iPod chargers, adapters and disks going, I see salt, pepper and cans of soup going.

Please let me know your thoughts. It's been a long week; this may be tosh.

Cheers

I figured if it was meant for a laptop, it would surely take a small butane stove and a kettle. I'm not planning to roast a suckling pig or anything.

It's lockable too. I'm very attached to my Big Soup.... there's a thread right there, best tinned sustanance.

I remember they used do do a full English breakfast in a can - is that still available? Tasted nothing like an English breakfast, in fact it was quite unique, but not unpleasant....

Update on the IKEAIDEA: Still think it's a great idea, but measured it all up - its a lot wider than it looks in the picture - 60cm - and this does not leave enough room for the passenger aperture mentioned. Nevermind.

I'm cooking up a homemade electric control unit - have bought aviation style switchgear/batt isolator - am thinking of incorporating a few gauges, any thoughts....

Ikea have some great ideas for campervans - generally their stuff is lightweight, aimed at people who live in very small European flats, so compact efficient storage, and truely innovative.
I always reckoned their fabric storage units might be useful, as might the wall-mounted shoe cabinets (if only I did not have so many windows).

yes, just like that, only on the driver side though as have the swivel seat on the psngr.

how did you get such a good fit with the mdf/ply?

also, had a go today at getting the bulkhead out - anybody got any tips on that - went for the welds with an ange grinder, but wasn't really having much luck!

happy bank holidya everyone!
