viking question

Post by mikestef »

Would like to ask the advice of viking pop top owners please,We are converting a van(for camping) and have bought an old viking pop top to use on it.It neads a bit of TLC and as we have canvas off to clean and repair we are wondering if we should make window/airvents on either end of the tent bigger to allow more air through or if the original size is sufficient. We will be camping in europe(summer time)and we are all hoping to sleep up there(2adults+2children)We would love to hear your views. Also because the plastic windows to the front are broken we are thinking of replacing them with netting.we are working on this now so please dont hold back on your advice!!Just want to get it as right as possible first go.Thanks alot ,Stefany

We find the air vents ok on the ends. We did have a new canvas made but stuck to the same size vents. Used it in France in temps up to 34° and the children didn't complain that they were too hot.

As for the windows, if you replace with netting, what about when it rains?

Thanks for your reply.I didnt mention we would have a canvas that we could zip closed over or under the netting as well.Good to know the original vents are enough.Isnt the design of the viking brilliant! Its just so big,you nearly have to see it to believe it!As I mentioned we are cleaning it at the moment and its quite weathered in the middle section(not so flexible ,kind of crackely)Oh well,I will finish cleaning it and then decide if that part needs replacing too.
