Tailgate differences

Post by fix »

Firstly I have searched but dont have the answer I need!

Ive got a late van and the tailgate is dented so I want to replace it, Ive been offered an early tailgate that I'm thinking of buying.

I know an early tailgate on a late van will physically fit but is it possible to cut a bigger hole in the early tailgate for the later lock, or can I get my later key to fit the early lock?

Thanks

I'm sure if you are talented enough to fabricate the correct size of hole to fit the later type of flush fitting button, then go for it, if not then simply use the early locking mechanism which can be made up to suit your key...... :D

Why not just get a s/h late tailgate .... they're cheapish and plentiful ... if you ask around the breakers I bet they may have one in your colour too.

Ive never really thought if trying to get hold of a tailgate through a breakers yard, I just have the assumption they will be far too expensive! I've done a parts enquiry on the web but as said I think breakers will come back with silly figures.
