Dash Voltage Regulator

Post by CycloneMike »

I think mine may be a duffer.
Petrol gauge only reads half when the tank is full and the temp gauge is a bit un stable. I remember reading previously that this is symptomatic of a poorly voltage regulator.
Looking at the attached link it shouldn't cost too much to try a new one, but does anyone know which one I need or can tell me the spec so I can try and figure it out myself.
Thanks,

Mike.

VAGCAT lists..............

BASIC GERMAN PRICELIST
part number 171919803
Partnumber Title Price
171919803 REGLER 7.8 Euro

Thats all I know except AngeloEvs has a photo In this thread showing the output as 10 volt. There are 3 connections... center is earth... left is 10 volt... right is 12 volt (battery +ve) input. As viewed from the back (windscreen side) of the panel.

Hi there
I cannot add much more only to say I remember changing three legged voltage stabilizers on a regular basis on all sorts of VW's and Audi's late 80's early 90's. Nearly always the same symptoms.....innacurate temp and fuel gauge readings.
So the diagnosis is good, just need to get the correct one.

Found this with a Google search on a U.S.A forum, can't vouch for the accuracy of the information.

Thanks for the help.
N38CA from this page appears to do the same job but the pins are reversed. I have read elsewhere that they can be mounted "face down" as long as it is still attached to a heatsink.
