diesel pug 307 in to petrol van adaptor plate? ? ?
hi all want to put a pug 406 diesel 1.9td non hdi in my water cooled t25 1.9dg petrol 4 speed. (please people dont hate me) i know its not very vw ish but fore multiple reasons that i wont mention this seems the best rout, well that and having a donor car and engine and the capability. so i know its been done many times (and ive seen a late bay converted to) wot i need is to get hold of the bell housing adaptor plate and other bits and bobs. is there somewhere i can buy a kit?
so there it is help would be appreciated
regards ant

av just ad a quick look, that guy that was doing the conv stuff was called "famous phil" there's a load of stuff on http://www.vwkd.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but I can't endorse him as I've not actually used his kit, sorry. (but only because I did my conv before I found 80/90 how I wish I had found it earlier,so much help/info evryone very helpful and friendly)

hi ant, cant tell you how much an improvement as bus was a blown motor (1.9petrol twin slider 88 velle) when I bought it, havn't done many miles in it yet as only recently got it m.o.t'd but I would say it was very similar to my old 2.4 t4 bus probably even quicker when it's "on turbo" and is doing between 32/37mpg tho am experimenting with wheel/tyre combos at mo. It's not in the same league as my t4 2.5tdi but I love the 25 for it's massive space inside for weekend kite/mountainbiking trips...wig

Re: diesel pug 307 in to petrol van adaptor plate? ? ?
re-gen,hi, I spoke to the guy who did my pug conv today, unfortunately he lent the specs to someone else who is fitting a 1.9td in a 25,and hasn't been able to get them returned.
but as far as he can remember-a bellhousing adapter was cut using a template, he thought 10/12mm thick plate, the pug flywheel was machined to accept the vw flywheel so that, pug starter/ring gear cud be used and vw clutch could also be used,I think these were fitted sort of inside each other, then fastened through with drillings/socket caps, the spigot bearing seat also was machined out slightly. There wasnt much to it once care had been taken to find 'centres'. obviously engine cradle/mounts were sorted so the motor doesn't hang too low, also so the 'deck lid' (engine cover) still fitted without being raised.
one prob I had was getting a reading from temp gauge as pug-vw must run different resistances,at the moment I am using a pug sender with top cut off then drilled out(9mm) tapped to match vw diesel sender then vw sender screwed inside pug sender,it seems ok, but have no hard evidence of actual running temps yet,(must err on side of caution with diesel head gaskets) I still run the petrol radiator, not as thick as a diesel I'm told but seeing as tho petrols have a higher combustion temp it seems ok,oh and had to make a tower header tank, to make bleeding the system a bit easier....just shout if you need me to try find stuff out..or send me your e:mail address and I'll take any pics you mite want...wig

Re: diesel pug 307 in to petrol van adaptor plate? ? ?
hi , i currently own a camper and panel van , both run 2.1 peugeot diesels!
have also fitted several engines for mates and even my dad runs a 1.9 td
i can get a plate made and a fly wheel turned for about £300 , the only thing i havent sorted yet is a spigot bearing holder, but i have a spare i can get the engineering company to make.
i have done probably 100000 miles on peugeot engines in my t25's and they constantly out perform other vans
i find a 1.9 td is plenty good enough for the van , although i run mine through 2.1 petrol boxes with larger (195/80/15) tyres to drop the revs and this seems to work well. you can run a 4 speed petrol box no prob , but the engine will be over worked , although causing no probs.
best thing with pug engines is you can sit them at 4000 revs constatnly or keep 70-80mph on motorways without fault.
never had overheating probs
check the vwkd website, look under COMPLETED CONVERSIONS my user name is the same and there are some pics of my autohomes KAMPER to which we took to EUROPE last year , high top 4 people ,towing a caravan ,fully loaded, 4500 miles! kept a steady 60mph on motorways and averaged 32mpg! no problems and went up hills!

Re: diesel pug 307 in to petrol van adaptor plate? ? ?
billy, wat do use for a water temp sensor? as although Ive not boiled mine yet I just am not sure my gauge/sender setup is correct, tho I could use an extra gauge I was hoping I could stick with the normal vw in dash style...cheers wig

cheers billy, drilling/tapping isn't a prob, but am not sure which sender from vw model is best to use? which early model do you use, at the mo I have a diesel sender as when I looked at the petrol wbx ones they looked like they were plastic push-in ones, also have you cut the bottom off pug sender so the vw one inside touches the water or just left it inside? cheers...wig

Re: diesel pug 307 in to petrol van adaptor plate? ? ?
late 70's , early 80's v dubs , golfs to t25's use the early sender , small brass screw in type
dosent seem to make a difference weather you cut the bottom off , just means defo water tight if still blocked!

Re: diesel pug 307 in to petrol van adaptor plate? ? ?
thanx billy, that is the set up I am using at the moment,(the small brass sender from a diesel t25) inside the watertight pug 1, but gauge doesn't seem to reach the correct reading, the needle only travels just onto gauge? but when shorted to earth needle travels right over and warning light flashes,so am assuming gauge is ok? any ideas/suggetions...wig

try a new sender.
common problem , mine works , and sits with the needle in the middle , over the led on a tacho dash.
