severe flat spots

Post by jonnyg »

I got me an '87 1.9DG van and have recently had a new engine fitted. I had a load of running issues and so got my carb refurbed and had to have a smaller idle jet fitted.

Now i have a problem with running on choke (feels like it misfires and very rough) and also flat spots once its warm.

I have got a motorbike can on there at the moment. With the last engine this didnt change the running of it at all but i have a feeling that this may be causing my problems. Just wanted to see what the other options are first before i spend £££'s replacing it back to standard...

Cheers

Make sure the choke 'pull down unit' is working properly, coz if it isn't it will cause similar running problems.....and while you are at it check the vacuum unit on the dizzy is also doing its job....

Dr Baxter has had these parts in stock in the past......

A flat spot is more often than not experienced during slow speed driving/accelerating , a sort of Hic-up or hesitation closely followed by an immediate increase in speed .

We tend to blame a flat spot on a suspected carburettor fault, but it can be caused by a number other things...... :D

Hope this answers your question......
