why not both?

Zig units control the internal 12v electics, consumer unit does the 240v hook up, if I understand correctly. My Zig has a circuit for charging from the 240v as well, so I use it to control the split charge for the leisure battery, but not all zigs do this.

quags ,i think you have ya hook up running to ya rcd..or wot ever its called then you run a 240v from ya rcd to ya zig to use when hooked up for charging.then from the rcd to outlets for the mains sockets too

sounds like what I have in my van...the white box in the boot with the rcd and flip switch has 2 cables....one goes to the zig for charging from the mains, and the other goes to a standard 3 pins socket. If your zig doesn't accept 240v for charging, you an have 2 cables supplying sockets I suppose

i dont have a zig unit, ive done the lectrics meself..still gotta wire in the battery charger to run off the hook up with a switch to swap it from leisure to starter battery(thanks for the idea mocki).but if i were to do it all again with the interior aswell ,it might have been cheaper to buy a krackered out caravan with the zig in and stuff and then scrap the van after

Theres a caravan breakers near Corby (or Oundle?), they have loads of interior fittings, dig the number out if its useful, found them in Yell.com and bought some stuff from them last year!
