Why me!! Can anyone help me with my auto box??

hey

just finished a 14 hour day get back to the office sit in the van and turn the key engine starts nicely as always then select reverse and pull back.. then i select drive and nothing happens so i selct again and nothing no noise no nothing....

the van has been taking a little while to change up lately and it has been leaving a small patch of oil but nothing serious

just looking at the history and it had a recon box just 8000 miles ago...

so does anybody have any ideas of what is going on has this happend to anyone?

anything will be most helpfull im so stuck

had the engine replaced 500 miles ago

um yea im just stuck really please help

have you checked the oil level recently.do you know the procedure for doing this.also you could do with checking the strainer thats inside the bottom of the box.this means removing the pan that the filler tube is connected to..brickwerks sell the strainer http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php?o ... 8&Itemid=6

Not exactly but isnt it go for a drive for 5 miles

then change to fist then reverse and check it then??? how can i do that if it wont drive???



it still selects gears just wont drive i them,

no i havnt checked recently dont even no where the dip stick is bad i no...

looking at the engine the auto dipstick is at the rear left hand side.it should have a yellow top.under the van is a flat pan.this filler goes into the side of this.undo the nut.this will drain most of the fluid.undo the nuts around the pan.be careful as more fluid will spill out when you pull the pan off.once off you should see the strainer.if like mine the strainer looks anything like this.then its time to worry..

so what does this mean if it is like yours???

how likely is this gonna mean i need a new gearbox??? i no its a silly question to ask but gotta be done..

all the bits of strainer get sucked into the valve oilways.this stops the gearbox from changing gear.i bought another box.i have still to take the valve off my knacked box.and see if it can be cleared.there is an extensive chapter in the bentley workshop manual on auto boxes.
