Well,I live in my van half the time - work away and live in it 14-15 days a month so it gets used for 1s and 2s. I use the blue and pink stuff from Go Outdoors and have never used anything but normal loo roll... it gets emptied at the end of each shift (4-5 days) and I've never had a problem with it. Empty it down a manhole and hose it out - job(bies) done! :ok

I've never use mine

I get the chems from towsure ,follow the instructions on the bottles , we use the same bog rolls that we use in the house, sometimes it will cog up the drain pipe but a quick shake and out it pops. Same goes for the baby wipes that somehow find their way into ours :?
If your using it right then only empty it when the waste tank is full, otherwise your wasting you cash ,money down the pan so to speak!
What i don't get is if your wild camping for a few days where do you "pooh" ? if not in the bog ?
If we were only peeeeeeing in the pot then I'd only use the pink stuff in the top tank.

What a great subject, I;ve been thinking for a while about getting a loo, as I'm hm well rather fussy about public toilets.

I've been thinking about housing it between the front seats, at least then I can enjoy the forward views while unloading, maybe I'm a little bit sick, but to be honest I could careless if people are around when doing my business its natural, dogs do it, if you need to go you need to go. Simply kick the others out of the van, ok I feel sorry for them if its cold and raining while they wait the 20mins or so for me to unload, but hey thats life.

Has anyone tred making up some kind of liqid using household ite,s from the supermarket?

In the woods/bushes! You can even dig a little hole with a spade for a 'posh pooh'!

I think this thread might need a poll starting for clarity - inny or outty!

heheh Andrew you have such a way with words! I can just imagine a cheesy grin to other motorists as you reverse park your lunch whilst trundling down the road and as for making others stand in the rain... quality! :rofl

As for not having a 'hit and only going for a miss' I agree with flibber's its what they are for - I have just this week got one and mine is gonna be used some I'm sure as trying to sort kids out at a festival is impossible - whinging while queuing, moaning they don't want you to help and then complaining it smells... it goes on and on and on!

Can anyone say for sure how long it takes the chemicals to break down any solids? also how much does it humm/do the chemiclas remove the smell at all?

The natural breakdown process just goes on until you empty the waste tank; the chemicals help with that and certainly do minimise the smell. Keeping the seal closed helps - providing you remember to release the pressure slowly if you use it in the mountains, otherwise you're in for a shock the first time you flush in the higher pressure of sea-level.

Tesco cheap toilet roll is as good (or as bad which ever way you look at it)as the Thetford stuff.
As for the chemicals I prefer the tea bag ones, no measuring pouring or a like(much dearer though).
I try to only use the bog when I really have to but my daughter is a lazy little so and so and will often foul the potti while I'm not looking.
Although I must admit to topping it up with a few Stellas now and again.

I once after cleaning it out forgot to put the cap back on , and being a lazy bast couldn't be bothered to clean it out as soon as I got back home, then decided to do a bit of F1 on the way to work.
As you can imagine it wasn't a pretty site (or smell should I say),but believe me you wil only do it once.
had to hose the van out.
