That could be oil on the plates from either end, gearbox oil stinks...but then clutch plates do but its more fishy.

I wondered about oil..... but never noticed any smells.
I suppose I should check the level of oil in the gearbox - is that easy to do?

NO Not on a 1.9 or not mine anyway water pipes gear linkage all fighting for space,

After a 100+ mile run next morning the clutch judders...It's oil all right but not enough to be worried about.
The clutch was changed 3 years ago.
I just live with it, it disapears after a bit

MIne judders badly when left for a while but like yours dan it clears itself after a few minutes.
I figured it was probably something like oil contamination.
