flashey lights everywhere

Post by armyphil »

electrical again, this is a bit a long one though so bear with me please dont be put off.

I thought i had a positive earth fault so i checked along the line and its the wire from the battery that oes to the fuse box but also works the hazards?? (it does on mine anyway)?

i traced the cable up to the hazard switch the (lilac and white) one still no problem so i removed the fuse the problem went away butthere was nothing wrong with the thick red from batt or lilac and white??

there is an earth off all three switchs (rear screen, hazards and fog light) they are all joined together going to a cable to the fuse box?? which is a good earth also.

anyways after all this i rebuilt still none the wiser. The hazrads decided they didnt want to work so i had a fiddle to see if i had missed something i hadnt.

WEll to cut an epic short all the lights now blink the main beam flashe dimmly with the hazards dont work, The indicator warning light flashes on the leds with the main beam light.

The earth for the flasher relay goes to the crown wheel earth under the dash but there is another elay for the main beam to.

so my question after all that is ay ideas how i can sort all these problems i know it s an earth but anyideas where i may have to look or any other ideas that may be the problem.

thanks for listening and any advice cheers phil

I just cleared up a similar problem by removing and checking all the earth cables that attach to the earth crowns beside the fuse box. Some of the spade connectors were loose, some had cracked, all were tarnished. I cleaned everything with wire brush and emery paper, replaced any cracked or broken spade connectors, and put it all back together - all lights work OK now.

Original symptoms (after unscrewing and then replacing the fusebox, which must have put pressure on the earth cables) -

Sidleights switch - side and tail lights OK
Headlamps switch - headlamps did not work at all, but all four flashers came on (steady, not flashing)
Indicator switch - sidelights flashed dimly along with direction flashers
Hazards switch - sidelights and rear flashers flashed, front flashers did not

Hope this helps!
Cheers, Neil
