Re: Mini Sandblaster
You are wasting your money buying that , you need a small industrial blaster to do the job properly, have another search on Ebay...

Try Tool Mart too, they can have some great offers at times.

What sort of spot sand blaster did you buy,James? Are you talking about a proper sand/grit blaster working from an air compressor or do you mean some sort of cheap(ish) electric blaster?

I have been thinking of buying a compressor/airline/grit blaster in the near future. I have mentioned this in another thread in 'Technical'. What problems did you have? Why didn't this expensive equipment do the job? What equipment do professionals use other than heavy duty versions of the same?
I have been told that if you sand/grit blast back to shiny metal & get it primed/painted straight away then it will last for a couple of years at least.

Re: Mini Sandblaster
Mine was a SIP one wroks ok for small stone chips that have rusted but for seams its no good you would need a much bigger hopper for the "sand" and it needs loads and loads of compressed ai, i had mine running of a 200ltr proffesional compressor and even that had to keep running to keep up!

Re: Mini Sandblaster
I was looking at Sealey Tools compressors & associated equipment. The cost is a limiting factor when condidering what/if to buy. I was thinking of a 2.5hp 50 litre direct drive compressor, airline & a recyclable grit blaster. The blasters come at 3 prices. I would go for the mid priced one, ignoring the budget model & the heavy duty one. Now I am wondering if it worth the expense if this type of equipment dosn't do a proper job.

Re: Mini Sandblaster
I use a Sealey compressed air hand held shotblaster for the seams usually running at 150psi. It seems to make a fantastic job but as soemone said the hopper is too small, only takes a minute to refill it tho. The actual work done is worthwhile tho and due to its size means blasting the seams from inside the arches is easy too!
(obviously take the wheel off first tho!
)
Rust on the seams on a van permanently left outside took around 2 n 1/2 - 3 years to return which i thought was acceptable.

Re: Mini Sandblaster
Thanks for the info, Peet.
The 50l compressor is only capable of powering the budget priced grit blaster. All the others take a lot more pressure plus higher cfm to make them work. What diameter is your hose?
There is 8mm & 10mm but I don't know which is best.

Re: Mini Sandblaster
I have no idea of the sizes as they are screw type portable compressors that I ahem 'borrow' from work n adapted to fit my gun! (dont worry the boss knows!) Could get the info if you need it? The worst job is doing behind the front bumper upright which makes a right old mess!!
