What's your plan of attack for rusty seams?, if you don't mind me asking - i'm hoping to do something similar and am ok with the idea of cutting into the rusty bits but haven't figured out how to stick it all back together. I'm thinking maybe I'd cut the seams out and then weld a strip to the back where panels join but will i lose some structural integrity? I'd be very interested in hearing of a way to do this - ta.
thanks weldore, used 800 on it, didn't need to flat it back really,i just wanted to see if it made much difference, wasn't too much effort.
and cruz it is ral 6011, bit of an improvement on the brilliant orange that it was ( one of the reasons i changed colour was that whenever i parked at a particular local beach, it looked a twin of the Kelly's ice cream transhit van, and i didn't want kids asking me for a 99 when i was sat there having a brew )
Nothing that involves welding i hope! They seem (haha...) complicated on the inside of the panels, so I will try to just clean them out with a steel brush on my angle grinder and a spot- sandblaster then put on some rustremover, and finally dry them out thorougly with compressed air and (hopefully) a baking sun on the panels. After that some decent paint and seam-sealer and lots of owatrol oil or anti-corrosion grease on the inside.
Closer to topic: If I do find a matching colour from a RAL chart, can I actually get the rustoleum in any colour I`d like?
Ah right, i suppose it depends on how rusty the seams are - I think some of mine are fairly rotten. As for the RAL colours, the guys I got mine from - Decor8 tel. 0161 7637007 - carry a limited range for £23.50 per 2.5 litre tin but will do any other colours for an extra £4.49. If you give them a ring they'll send you a colour chart and you can order anything from it.
The flatting back is a lot less hassle than many think it is. To be honest the exercise is extremely good for you.
There are two ways you can appoach it - get the paint on and make do (many do), or put it on, take your time and flat as required to achieve a near perfect finish. Again, if you use spray theres a lot to mask and you lose that ability to just do an hour or two on a Sunday which rollering is perfect for. Less mess in my view.

My van is cream over a few shades of brown and I don't really want an exact match but something fairly similar. I'd also quite like to keep the decals if possible.
I've got some Jenolite left over from my morris minor days, is it worth getting Vactan instead?
Id also like to know what the difference in paints are between the RAL, BS381C and BS4800 colours. Can anyone tell me please? Thanks
