Sprucing up me van

Post by Cruz »

I'm in the process of refitting the van after having some major bodywork done. The fridge panel was shot as was both inner sills. I'm currently in the process of sound deadening and insulating where I can before refitting the interior and finally roller painting the whole van

Here's where I am up to at the moment if your interested :ok

I'm very interested in this as I'm currently trying to tart mine up a bit (I think restoration would be too grand a term for what I've attempted). I'm doing preparation on the exterior while the weather's good but will be refitting the interior too at some point.
What is that silver stuff you're both using? I've read bits and pieces on here about insulation but there seems to be a lot of options to choose from. It did have what looks like loft insulation type stuff and I don't think it was a problem in terms of damp.

To try to make the van a bit quieter to drive I have covered the cab, living area and rear engine bay floor in flashing tape from screwfix plus the offside panel and will be doing the inside of all 4 doors. Used 5 rolls

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/72438/Sea ... 25mm-x-10m" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Then I'll tape the inside of the doors and offside panel with Thermawrap insulation which I got from B&Q for about £14 a roll at half price. It's a kind of silver bubble wrap. Wickes sell something similar too. Got 2 rolls and I'll stick it on with Thermawrap silver tape.

Thermawrap isn't listed on B&Q site at the moment but they have tonnes instore

No got it done at a bodyshop in preston. They had it 5 weeks and did quite a bit of work

  • Both inner sills were shot and replaced with new vw sills. Obselete O/S bought from germany.
Floor section behind the fridge which also incorporates the lower outer sill replaced with new vw panel.
Had a new section made and fitted on the offside panel from the lower sill seam up to the first swage line with a new hookup socket hole.
A schofields offside arch repair (short sill)
New schofields N/S outer sill incorporating the sliding door seal channel.
Both rear lower corner pieces (behind bumper end caps)
    A new N/S wheel arch
Sliding door inner and outer skin repair
and a hole in the cab floor done

Came to a tidy sum but was just what I expected to pay for a good job and was what I banged in overtime for.

Finally got all the interior done. Sound deadened, insulated, cupboards re-painted, new floor covering and got the 3 way fridge back on gas :D
