Exhausts for 2.0l Aircooled - help please...!!

Gonna have a go at fitting the exhaust this weekend (if I can get my rocker misery sorted - see other post) but just wondered - do I need to use exhaust paste when fitting the new exhaust? I have all new gaskets but wondered whether I need to use paste as well, particularly, where the exhangers meet the risers?
