distributor drive

Post by matty o »

The drive bit in the engine looks to be in the wrong place well according to Haynes it does.
Any tips on get the bugger out
Have tried knocking a rod with tape in it into the hole as per the manual but it will not move.
Thanks

Sometimes the drive is put in 180 degrees out. There are a few engines running without any problems like this.
It just means the plug leads are on differently to Haynes.

umm....not sure if this is any help, but when I had mine taken out, the lads at elite took the fuel pump off (and the long needle bit) first. Then the dizzy came out easy! Seems the drives can all be linked together...I know not how, though, sorry.

Before I got internal puller set I used to use a pointed stick to remove drive, just too big for the hole in the centre drift it in and pull the whole out, be careful though if you mess it up you can drop one or both of the thrust washers into the sump as they can stick to the drive with oil film and then drop off, a good strong magnet on the drive helps
