a micro switch is fitted into the turny bit on the tap so it activates the pump when you turn it on :ok

imagine if you wired the pump straight to the battery it would be on all the time..if you break one of the wires and connect each end to the switch and ..hey presto...the tap operates the pump now :ok

The switch is connected to your fresh water pump and causes the pump to force water from the tap.

you could just run the 2 wires from your foot thing to it or dont wire the tap up..it would still work but you would have to turn the tap on

Foot switch?
Pump switch?
Have you already got a foot switch fitted for operating the pump then?
