Brake calliper won't bleed

Post by getunder »

In desperation I used heat from a pencil torch to try to free a front brake calliper bleed screw well rusted in and rounded. Kept the flame away from the caliper as far as possible.Freeing oil did zilch. In the end as the screw ground down in size in desperation I put the bleed screw tight in a vice and turned the calliper. Shear or unscrew by then I didn't care. Fortunately the latter. Now it won't bleed even with the bleed screw out but does sometimes a bit. Presume some heat damage but any ideas. Don't know what they are like inside. User serviceable ??

if you have it out then completly dismantle it..theres not a lot to them..make sure everything is clean and maybe try and clean out the bleed hole with something...you should really change your seals but tomoz go to a car shop and buy a new nipple for it.if you have a quik clamp use it to push the piston in all the way then use a flat screw driver to ease it back out a bit ..then clamp it in again then out again..eventually itll come out and you can see if theres anything in there that shouldnt be....and wear glasses incase of the casing chucks a bit of itself your way

Remove the nipple altogether, place a rag over the hole and pump (don't go mad) but any obstruction will soon be cleared. Fit a new bleed nipple and then bleed properly.

thinking about this again..if you have butchered the nipple it could be squashed inside so it wont bleed

Thanks Geldore but have taken the nipple out completely and still no dice. As I have the van on axle stands quite steeply at the front as am taking petrol tank down is it remotely possible that the brake limiter is coming into operation. From the description of its modus operandi in the Haynes Manual this only sounds possible if the rear end was up quite high. should know in a day or so when van is down if that is possible. Seem to remember something wierd like that happening with a Wolseley 6/110 I had a long time ago.

Hurrah, voila , toute suite and all that. Lowered the front of the van to ground level last night and was out first light (ish)to test my brake limiter valve theory. and the ( front) caliper bled Yippee ! Must be more than coincidence especially as i did it o.k. a month ago at ground level.Another small step for man and T25 ownership.
