Judder from rear!

Post by Andy syncro-nutz »

I have a rather heavy 2.1DJ syncro camper, Ive deveolped a judder in 4th gear when driving up hills on the motorway, I can change gear down to 3rd and it goes away! Im not convinced its an electic breakdown but have not eliminated a fuel problem
I first tried removing the prop with no success, Then i replaced the clutch on friday with no success,

Have any of you folks had this experience in the past? Or have any suggestions on how to diagnose the above described?

Regards Andy, :?

Andy,
Had similar problem on the front of my van, which resulted in an intermittent violent shaking of steering. Turned out to be a dry/worn cv joint. Maybe this could be the problem?????

Starts around 3600rpm then gets worse as the revs drop and then a change down to 3rd and it goes away!

It could be a tyre or wheel problem

I had recurring vibe (on 2.1), almost went away after both rear wheels balanced, but then came back routinely...

I investigated in this order:

Wheel balance, wheel bent, tyre distorted
Inner CVJs and g/box output bearing play suspect
Delaminated engine mountings, not visible until removed, bench tested and levered around (on a diesel, made a bg difference when n/s one replaced)
Engine or box touching engine tray, under load up hills at max torque
Wheel bearing housing play in vertical plane

How bad is it, blurrs the rear-view mirror?
