Steel wheel load ratings

Post by andisnewsyncro »

Is there a difference in the load rating between the various steel wheels listed on Vagcat? The part numbers for the Syncro are similar to the "standard" transporter ones, both models list a steel rim 601027 but have a different prefix (211 syncro & 7D0 Transporter). They look to have different centres.

I'm wanting to swap my Carat alloys back to steel and have a set of steels that I inherited with my van but am cautious about using them incase they're not heavy duty enough. Ideally I'd like to go up to 15" wheels but if the ones I have are suitable I'll stick with them and put the saved money towards something else. (Unfortunately the previous owner gave them a thick coat of paint so I can't get the part number off the wheels but am working on that later this week hopefully).

The van is a 14" Syncro 2.1 wbx, originally a Kombi but now with a retro fitted Westy interior.

Can anyone give me a definate answer on this one please, I'm getting more & more confused the more I read.!

it's not a transporter its a type 2 syncro
251 601 027 are the 6" x14" syncro steel rims
211 601 027H are the 5 1/2" x 14" steel rims fitted to 2wd and syncros
7D0 is 1996 Transporter 15" ET55 would need spacers sorting

Thanks Aidan.
that's cleared up a lot of my questions.
Basically wheels are interchangable between syncro & 2wd vehicles, so now I need to clean up the steels I've got & check the part numbers

In an ideal world, Sycropaddy, that's what I'd do. Just need a bit more encouragement to part with cash, being a Yorkshireman in exile.
I think spending a day cleaning up the steels I have, only to find they're the wrong ones might just convince me though. Looks like I should get some of my money back on the alloys by the look of the for sale board too.
Still kicking myself for missing the group purchase last year.
