keep it clean! remove all paint and rust from the area you are welding. cut the metal back away from the rusted area and remove the paint. as tony says practice on some clean sheet to start with, use this to set up your welder than tackle the bus. i found mig easier than arc, so keep trying, let us know how you get on tomorrow :ok

That's the problem i had at the weekend, no metal to weld to. I had to rebuild a pillar and wheel arch before i could think of putting the panel on.

gee isnt mig weldin for the first time fun....if your havin probs setting it up duck....find a bit of scrap tin....arc up on it and turn the wire speed up and down till you get the owd bacon frazzle......being an experienced welder anyway...you shouldnt have too many probs........i personally find stick welding much harder than mig,as you are findin mig harder than arc.....with the credit crunch booming ive had to show loads a lads lately how to mig weld as theyre findin garage prices way to high....some take to it like a duck to water..some are only fit for fire watchin......im sure itll be fine owduck.............
