Dash board storage solutio
Hi all,
I've seen in a few pictures, dash boards with which seems an extra storage extension on top, just near where the ash tray goes. I was looking at replacing the dash as it is a bit tatty, but if I can find this storage solution, then even better.
I've looked but unable to find it. Any ideas?
Cheers
Chris

Yep, I have one and I don't like it all. It's about as nice as the plastic tray that your Christmas chocolate assortment has!
Very flimsy and plastic-y IMO.

Total pants!
I had one that had a fold out table - ho, ho, ho!
It made more noise than a diesel without oil.
Don't go that way.
Someone on here made a really good storage area that sat on top of the dash.

when i read
i figured, if it was good enough OEM it's good enough fo meThese were the original dash tidys as supplied by VW in the 1980s. They are made from 3mm ABS plastic using a sturdy 2 piece construction and come with all fittings. Makes good use of the space on the dash for storing pens, CDs, and drinks cans etc.
no need to buy the cheaper one and realise i've wasted £25
my only comaplaint with it, some cans/bottles fall out sometimes, i havea modification planned for when i get time
Re: Dash board storage solutio
got the original 80's one in the van, couldn't do without it, never rattles and certainly isn't flimsy. word of warning though, never leave a block of board wax in it for the day, my daughter did a couple of years ago and most of it is still there

Re: Dash board storage solutio
i was thinking of cutting a hole in the dash (there seems to be plenty of room under there) and dropping a tray in with a lid on it ,would have to fabricate something suitable and maybe incorporating 2 drink holders into the lid...wot do you think ?
or maybe just a recess welded into it for crap, like the old escorts used to have...
or is this daft thinking?

..what he said, the old ones are best. Hold out and keep your eyes peeled at shows, I got a solid fibreglass one for a tenner. Good for mounting gauges in.

Re: Dash board storage solutio
I used a spare instrument cowl / binnacle. One side has a small foxed panel for mounting satnav, and the rest is open for putting sunglasses, CDs etc in. Photo in my Garage.
Would like to panel over all of it to mount guages, but by the time you add up a few guages and senders, it becomes an expensive way of finding out that your engine is old and knackered!

I've also been thinking about this, as a minimum you would end up with a level area to stand things on.
The thought of pulling the dash out gives me the sweats though.
