Re: Auto gear box problems
You must start with checking the oil level,,,,then if this is OK have a feel and a quick smell of the fluid if it smells sort of burnt then it is possible one of the clutches may have been slipping, also feel for any grittiness in the fluid as this will also cause problems.
If the fluid has been in for a while it may be worth dropping it and replacing it with new stuff........

Thanx Fritz.
Mmm well seein hows the gearbox is covered in oil on the bottom and leaves wee wee's where it parks that sounds like a good place to start... maybe the box will hav eto come off then..
Anyone have any other ideas of stuff to check please, kick downs etc?
Thanx

Re: Auto gear box problems
a really daft question but he is running it in D isn't he? i only ask cos a m8 got one,, first ever auto and he was setting of in 1 changing into 2 then expecting it to get 3 on its own
kick down forces it down a gear at 3/4 throttle for overtakes etc so wont affect it changing up even if disconnected. at least thats how kickdown has worked on every auto i've ever had.
good luck with it, hope its nowt serious as i believe they're a princely sum to repair

Re: Auto gear box problems
take the plate of the bottom of the gearbox and check the filter thats attached to the valve body.when i had problems with mine changing gear.this was the culprit.the gauze had broken up blocking the oilways...

Re: Auto gear box problems
Generally......a problem like this would be caused by a blocked/seized valve in the valve block... not opening/closing with the resultant inoperation of a particular brake band and subsequent gear.
The normal cause of action would be to drop the sump, remove the valve block assembly, strip and clean in a sterile enviroment using paint thinners and a small brush, clean sump re-assemble, refill (note* this method is fine as long as there is no obvious damage/excessive wear indicated by burnt smell, broken bits in the sump, very contaminated oil)
Alternately you could have the box fully stripped and re-conditioned at a high cost.
