Hi all, just bought an '83 leisuredrive conversion, its a 1.9 watercooled manual petrol RHD and my first T25. I was under the impression its a DF, as it says on the v5 "transporter 60ps" however its definitely got the Pierburg 2E3 carb, which i thought only came on the DG? but i guess someone could have swapped it. Anyway, iv been having problems getting it going, when i pour fuel into the carb it starts and runs, but then cuts out after between 3 and 15 seconds, so this led me to think fuel supply issues, but after changing the filter and then even completely bypassing the fuel system (hose straight from pump to can of clean petrol) it sometimes goes for a bit longer, but wont start without fuel being poured in, and only continues running with the throttle about half open. Anyone got any clues? iv changed a couple of the more perished looking vacuum connectors, and tried to make sure sure all the obvious connections are good, but im completely new to this engine, and by no means a pro mechanic at the best of times so at a bit of a loss really.
Any help would be much appreciated,
thanks,
p.s. love the site, iv only been an owner for about a week and already seem to be on it all the time.

Have you checked the fuel pump? Disconnect the outlet and get someone to turn the engine briefly while you check for fuel flow and catch any spillage. I would also check that the fuel lines aren't blocked. If there is no flow and the lines are clear then check the fuel pump push rod as well as the pump itself. If the fuel system is OK then you can focus on other parts of the system such as ignition, choke, Vacuum advance, etc.

yeah, checked the output from the pump by disconnecting hose from the carb, seemed to be pumping fuel fine. How would i go about checking the other stuff? cheers

Hi,
Just a thought, have you removed and cleaned the small conical gauze filter. If you remove the fuel line at the point where it enters the carb, the filter is in the carb itsself and can be removed with a small pick, tweezers or the like.I did mine and it was almost completely choked with deposits.May help.
James.

There's a tick over shut off valve on the 2e3 that's electrically operated is this connected?
