Ok, all this recent talk of getting spares for the WBX'r cooling system has depressed me to the point that I am considering batting for the other side. Thinking of parting with my WBX'r and getting an Aircooled. She is a great van but I need to use it weekly and cannot afford to have it lying dormant whilst I search for parts. What is the spares situation for the Aircooled and what can't you get for them (not bothered about parts that can be substituted with alternatives as long as there are alternatives? Many thanks.........

the only part that i am aware off that is now obsolete is the mechanical fuel pump... that is now replaced with an electric pump such as a Facet pump.. the rest is all available but quite expensive.. prices are slowly coming down as they are getting more popular and more and more aftermarket parts are now available..

oh yeah nearly forgot!!! tinware is hard to get, i havnt found any aftermarket manufactures yet...!!!

I'm leaning more and more toward scubby conversion when wbx needs replaced too Dr. Pep

Transplant a Subaru.....I read your link Pepperami and a good alternative but what are they like on MPG compared to the DG as you cannot run them on LPG? Would imagine that it is probably more economical with a light foot like I have.....

Scubby can be ran on lpg... and give much better mileage then wbx on petol or gas. :wink: I'll let Pep tell you what mileage actually is. :twisted:

Stick with what you have and don't let the scare mongers put you off, ok so some new parts are not available, I'm in the lucky position that my garage is a fully equipped engineering shop too, I make up these obsolete parts for customers and once demand is high enough then some of the bigger manufacturers will start making off the shelf parts like they do for the air cooled market.

As for Scooby's not being able to be LPG'd I don't know where you got that gem of information but you had better tell 8 of my customers that have it and are running very nicely that they now can't have it :shock:

Ok, feeling much better now and have deleted all the caravans in my Ebay watch list! Can't remember where I read that Jap lumps don't like LPG but nice to know that the conversion is viable.........cheers everyone and noticed Pep is in Norfolk......might just have to wander over and take a look! :ok

if i was ever to go water cooled i'd look for a scooby. it'd be the old 2 litre from the l-series i'd put in tho with a proper carb :wink:

How is the scooby engine on clutches tho? as i know with the cars they can be quite heavy handed and wear out faster than your normal car, and replacement 'racing' standard ones which last longer are costly?
