Luckly enough mannaged to spin it round with help from the rear diff lock and drive home in 2nd gear!

anyone got a spare one?
is it the same as a 5 speed or a syncro Diesel?

No No and No!

Think a[n early?] 4 speed might do the trick though? Petrol or Diesel should be alright but Turbo diesel won't be, and all syncro diesels were turbos!

Still, nice to see it out and about! (I jammed my accelerator cable and snapped handbrake cables in the snow last time round  (no I wasn't trying a handbrake turn, the two were related).

Is that a 'U' reg? Whats the deal, thought Manx plates were completely different format.

Manx plates aren't really age related, they run in sequence but you can swap and change them from vehicle to vehicle to your hearts content. all contain either MN or MAN
They keep all the available numbers on an online database so you can choose the one you want for about £50 or have the next in sequence for about a fiver I think.
I was after 16 MAN or something close U160 MAN was the best I could find (sounds like a U boat registration!)

There was an auction recently for the first ever manx plate "MN 1" that sold for £100,000 but they don't usually change hands for much.

I've not looked yet but I think the cause of the gear stick breaking off was probably due to the fact I hadn't secured the linkage protection tube, (under body protection bars not refitted yet) it has slid back jammed on the universal joint requiring more pressure to select gears. So it's my own stupid fault!

Was fun while it lasted!

Syncro gearstick is the same as 4 speed comes in either l or rhd, the stop plates in box at the bottom is the difference between a 4 speed and a syncro at the front. Knobs are still available new from VW : ) and they have textured finish when new, weird but quite nice
