Service for Taps and Water tank?

Post by karlyau »

Hi,

I have just bought a campervan (1986 Holdsworth conversion) and am new to this world of camping / campervanning.

In general I am really pleased with what I have got for my money (so far) and am looking forward to trips out etc ... not as much as the kids though.

I think the only problem I have with the camper is that the taps do not work. It has hot / cold water (run by the gas I guess) and with a (Zig?) pump. However none of this works. The bloke I bought the van from said that he never used it as it didn't work when he bought it. He never used the water tank either - and I think it may have been contaminated.

I have no idea about how this sort of thing works, and would like to find someone or somewhere that would be willing to look at it, and if not too expensive to get it working.

Does anyone know somewhere / someone suitable who could do this sort of job?
(Obviously I am willing to pay - but not looking to spend too much if I can help it - credit crunch!)

I am based in Hook, Hampshire (Near Basingstoke and Reading).

Any advice greatly appreciated.
best Regards,

Karl (and Gretel)

Hi ....welcome to the dark side!...and to the Holdsworth owners clique!

You say that the previous owner didn't use the water tank or the taps...so sounds as though the whole system has been left empty for some time... i presume you have re-filled and tried the system?
If the tap on my Holdsworth is not used regularly the on /off contact plays up and just clicks, so if you can get to the tap from under the sink unit, take it out and give contacts a clean...you should find the water pump (blue) under the rock and roll seat if its the same as mine check and clean this too. The water tank could probably do with an overnight clean with 'Milton' solution and then a good flush though. It will sterilize the external tap too. Keep some water in the tank between using camper but I find it pays to change water in tank very regularly. When filling use one of those flexi filter mesh funnels they collect any stray bits.
Don't know about the heater bit ...not got one ...am envious

Thansk for the info Molly Man.

(I just realised this is probably on the wrong forum - so apologies all, I will add the message under technical questions).
