hi i have just brought my first van, its a 1986 panel van and am currently converting it into a camper. i am in need of some advice as to what to do with the roof. At the moment it is just metal, what and how do i need to cover it? whatever i use will need to be quite strong as i already have an overhead locker (westfalia interior) to go in, so needs to be able to bear weight and still stay up.
any help and as much advice/images would be great.
thanks

Your best bet would be to look out for this book either at this suggested site or even E-bay.

It will provide you with lots of practical ideas of 'How To Build a Camper Van'...

Re: wood lining & insulating panel van tin top
You could sort of... bend 3/6/9mm plywood into the roof. So you would screw a strip of wood parallel with the roof, put one side of your sheet ply in, bend it to the contour of the roof the brace the other side in the same way stopping the plywood from moving and keeping it held in a strong curved state. This could then be covered with whatever, carpet, varnish , laminate...
think its self explanatory but let me know if your want me to draw what i mean
