Temperature gauge.
Hi everyone, If i may pick your brains . I have a 1990 1.6 td bus with about 103,000 on the clock. The engine was replaced before I got it with a low mileage 1.6 td from a golf. When the ignition is turned on the red led on the gauge glows( DOES NOT FLASH) and when the engine starts it stays on. The actual needle moves to about 1/2 way after a couple of miles driving and stays there. The bus uses no water or oil and drives fine with no signs of overheating( even after 160 miles of motorway driving)......Any suggestions please.

sounds like an earth fault or faulty sensor.

it could be one of the two senders at fault as well.i should be in tomorrow.if you want to call round.i can show you where they are.if you dont already know.bell me first.my number is on the help list.in members only

Thanks for the Tips everyone ,will check sensors and wiring asap..all family down with a nasty virus at mo, so running round like a blue a****d fly looking after them...Thanks.

Assuming that yours is supposed to flash bear in mind that the circuit that controls the flashing is in the temp gauge itself. The LED should flash for a few seconds as soon as you switch the ignition on for a few seconds. Even with the instrument housing removed and just powered up with 12V it should flash and then extinguish. The coolant sensors trigger the gauges internal circuit. Yours is glowing and I doubt that the problem is the sensors particularly since the gauge functions normally.

Hi,, sorry to butt in but i have a similar problem too on my 2.1, coolants fine, temps fine just this damm flashing light constantly,,,, does any body know if there should be 12v at the sensor plug when the ignition is on?? blue and green wire on mine traced this back to the harness conector which i seperated and no 12v there either,
