POP TOP

I have a a California Westfalia. We've had it a year but as yet haven't plucked up enough courage to sleep in the pop top!!
Does anyone know how safe they are and how much weight they can support??
We're not bloaters but its aslot of weight with 2 adults on what looks like a pice of plywood!!

Let me put it this way....


I'm an American and all the Vanagon campers in America (or the VAST majority of them) are PopUp Westfalias and I never heard of anyone falling through the popup.

And you know what they say about Americans and their 'body fat'....

I'm 15 stone and me and the missus have slept up top in a westy. It wasn't much fun though, sleep with your head at the open end and your pillow falls off and my feet kept touching the canvas at the bottom ( I'm only 5'11"), sleep with your head down at the pointy end and it's like sleeping in a coffin. We won't be doing it again.

It will take the weight no probs but very cold early and late season and pillows keep falling off end

That'll keep your pillow from falling....

As for your feet going to the narrow end....

solution is simple. Just get a piece of MDF that runs the full width and use it as an extension for your heads to rest on, allowing you to move up. Your pillows will rest on top of the extension board.

I'll stick to sleeping downstairs and throwing all the bags and stuff up top I think

i have a california as well and always sleep"upstairs". i've extented the bed 12inches and have an insulation cover for the pop-top.I find theres more room to stretch out upstairs.by the way im 6' tall and not underweight!!!

I love sleeping up the top...sure your pillows want to fall off, and your feet contact cold wet canvass on occasions....but

on a nice site, with a nice view, on a nice morning.....with the "canvass window" open...the view / fresh air is great.

No worries about falling through...its solid as a rock.
