Correct coolant level sensor and removal

Post by Jutstar »

I had a knacked coolant level sensor, and got a new one from brickwerks. However, the electrical connector does not appear to fit, i have checked on the JK website and i have boght the same as they are selling, are there any nore available? If not i take it i would have to change my electrical connector.

Also, in my Haynes manual it looks a doddle to remove, hahahahahahaha , i ve tried mole-grip adjustable spanners and can t get anything to fit, as there isn t much space between the top of the tank and the body of the vehicle.

Any help would be gratefully received. :D

When I purchased a spare from GSF they had two listed. The connectors were different and I had to go to the store to examine which was the correct one for my 1.9DG. Someone should be able to tell you which one you need but you may need to mention your VW year and engine, etc.

If you are struggling toget at the hexagon on the sensor then I am guessing that you still have the expansion tank on the van? i also struggled with this and ended up cap off the undoing the two rubber coolant hoses jubilee clips. I then unscrewed the expansion tank off of the metal mounting plate. Obviously there will be coolant in the tank which you can drain out then re-use. With the tank off you can use grips etc or the corrent sized spanner to undo the sensor. Its only plastic so be careful and when fitting the new one be aware that you are tightening onto an o'ring so easy does it. Reverse to re-assemble and I also bled the water system afterwards.

Bit long winded, there may be other ways but this way worked for me....good luck
It will be roadworthy one day.....Honest
