I too needed a jack. I got one from Mega-Bug ( think that's how you spell it) in London by post. they are good. My local tyre factor used a trolley jack under the flat pan of the rear suspension unit and it broke the metal which was quite thin with rust anyway so jack under the jacking point or chassis.

I carry an almost full size 2 ton trolley. Weighs a bit but rather have a jack I can rely on and give me room if I have to go underneath. Alternatively, you could carry a smaller version along with a thick piece of hardwood to raise the jack up further to start with.

4 tonne bottle jack seems best, very strong but very small!! Will get a trolley jack though... when money allows.
