Hello, just a quick question, what is the model number for this carb that is sold as a kit at just kampers, can't really see any detail on which one it is, is it the dreaded ICT34? Hopefully not, thanks!

Ive got a 1986 1.9 petrol. I had a solex originally, apparently VW only fit them for about a year due to there poor performance, and the pierburg wont fit in place of the solex, i had to get a manifold that would allow for the weber. All very complicated as its roughly £450 spent and its still not running smoothly! Now i have the part number i will try to research the perfect way of tuning it, thanks alot for your reply

there's another thread about carbs, gas sure sound like the place to go, £75 +vat
they'll take it appart, fiddle then make it run well after
mine needs seeing too, shame they are so far away

The thing about Weber carbs is that they're twin-choke carbs: Twin chokes = lots of air = lots of fuel = lots of power
But because both chokes open simply based on how far your foot is planted, they give more air/fuel than necessary, unless you're absolutely booting it
The big positive about the Pierburg carb is that, although it's a twin-choke (which is good) the second choke is demand driven. The first choke responds to your foot and the second to the amount of vacuum the engine creates - which is related to how much it's working. So, if you're in a lazy mood, or going downhill, or toddling along on the flat, the primary choke will respond to your foot and the second choke will barely be open. But, put your foot down smartly, or start going uphill, and the second choke will open in response to the extra demand (of the engine, not your foot) lots more air/fuel goes in and whoosh (well, a T25 version of "whoosh" anyway

Don't get me wrong - if you want to drive with your foot off the pedal or on the floor, the Weber carbs are great - they do produce more power than the Pierburg (in exchange for a few less miles per tank) but if you actually drive your T25, then you'll find it hitting your pocket with no real benefit to your right foot
At the end of the day, if you want your T25 to go quickly, fit a 2.1, or a Scooby engine. Don't expect miracles from the 1.9 and have faith that VW knew what they were doing when they stuck with the Pierburg
