Camping in Southern Ireland

We are now like everyone else planning our summer hols. We have booked the very steep ferry tickets and will be going in August for 10 or 11 days.
Will cop out slightly by staying at a hotel for a couple nights in Dublin(it is our anniversary as well!)
We are wondering if anyone can reccommend any campsites near Cork and Waterford and any must see sights. Thanks all.

Hi Mrs Molly and I ventured across to Ireland a year or two back now ...there is a good site just north west of Cork near Blarney... castle at Blarney is good for a visit but get there early to avoid coach loads of Americans and watch out for the one way system in Cork, the bridges across the river which you find yourself crossing several times!, the traffic lights that we obey but it appears not the Irish... driving in Ireland is great but not in Cork!!

Oh...thanks for this info. I would love an Irish trip once the weather gets better.

Dont think yuo can ever afford to wait for the weather! I honestly cant think of more than a handful of camping weve done where it was sunny! Thanks for hte tips though. Have looked at Blarney campsite it looks very nice.

It is a bit out of your way but if you have the time you should go round the ring of kerry it is a lovely area with wonderfull views and beaches but beware of the buses as the road is quite narrow,if memory serves me right you are best going round anti clockwise

Don't fall for that one!...we went round the 'wrong' way and its hell!...all the coaches are coming towards you... they give way to no one!...you have a rock face to your inside for most of the journey and the road is very narrow...frightening!... the laybys are on the other side towards the sea and so are always full of coaches so you can't stop to cross over into them for the amount of sheep-like American tourists wandering around with cameras stuck to their faces!Go the normal ...and good luck...

Hi all, Its a little known fact that when in Ireland, you can go through a red light, as long as its only an "early" red!
This fact is not explained properly to visitors from abroad.
