Hose Clamp Issue (air flow meter)
Right, all my probs with our T25 seem to be down to a vacuum issue caused by a leak where the big rubber hose enters the air fflow meter from the engine side. Now, both pieces of the equation are in perfect nick, the hose and the flange on the AFM. The problem is that when I try to tighten the hose clamp, it just forces itself off the flange. If I just snug it up, it vibrates off (the engine immediately quits). I've tried 3 different styles of hose clamp and all have the same effect. I've had the whole lot on the work bench and cleaned it so it's free of dirt and oil.
Any suggestions as to how to get this to secure and STAY secured?
Also, I should mention that my air box is not secured in any way other than by the hoses. Should there be something there to hold it still? This is the way it was when I bought it.

I'm assuming your engine is a petrol DJ?
The air box should have a peg on the bottom that locates into a hole in the bodywork, and a strap clamp (a bit like the ones that hold the air box together) on the top of the airbox that grips a loop from the bodywork.
Difficult to explain without pics. Sorry.

Right there is nothing at all there to secure the box. Not sure about a peg but I do recall seeing a hole with a rubber grommet in it around there. Deffo no strap of any kind present. Been looking for a picture everywhere on the net and can't find one.

Have you thought about using Sikaflex (only if you don't want it to come off ever again),you would have to leave it 24 hrs.to set? That would also stick your box to the bodywork.Permanent.
Either that or make some serrations on the spigot with a soldering iron to give the hose something to grip on.(I am assuming it is a plastic airbox)

It's the join indicated here... Rubber hose to metal flange on the air flow meter...

Sound to me as though the hose clamp has been over tightened in the past and has left you with a conical spigot.I would have thought sikaflex would be good for that, or open up the spigot with something of the correct bore so that it is parallel sided again.

Not having one of those engines, I can see from a more detailed pic in another thread that the metal is most probably cast, so sikaflex might be the only way forward.Has the lip at the end been removed?

Below the airbox there are 2 hole with rubber grommets which pegs in the bottom of the lower filter housing locate into. The clip on the upper housing then fastens onto the clip below the hatch opening ..... this can be pushed back out of sight.
Once the housings firmly in place the majority of the movement should be eliminated.

you're right, it's prob rattling around like a bugger in there when it's under load. Just securing it should make a huge difference. Still need to figure out how to make the clamp hold. Might try the sikaflex.

Well, still struggling with this problem. I have located the clamp point at the side and it works to hold the 'box still but I still can't get the end of the rubber 'elbow' the sercure properly around the flange on the box. I'm wondering if I should try to find another one? Any ideas of where I might find one or even what to call it? In the pic below...
