Carbs

Post by Tug »

Hi

My Camper is running a little rough since it has been away in the unit for 6 months.
The van is a 2.0 Aircooled running standard twin Carbs...

The problem i have is it runs fine while the auto choke is on and ticks over at just over 1000rpm....but when the choke clicks off it cuts out and wont idle....

Any ideas it ran fine before i put it away.....Can any body give me any basic tips for seeing if it is running rich or lean too please.

It has also developed a slight mis fire and it has an oil leak from one of me push rod tubes...joy.....They dont like being stood do they... :run
Life is not a rehearsal...Live life to the max....Buy a Aircooled VW and get covered in Rust and Oil.......But we all love it really....!!

No they do not like being stood like that, you will find that the petrol will have gone off in the carbs and it will probably have a bit of water in there too, easiest way to clean out these is to remove the fuel cutt off valves from the side and give it a good blow through the hole with a compressed air line, this will clear most of the jets in the carbs. If it had a little water in the bottom then they will need to be removed and cleaned, the alloy "furs" and blocks the jets if stood for a long time, try blowing them out first and check that hte cutoff valves are working, when running pull off the wires one at a time, the vehicle should stall, if it doesnt then you have a faulty valve and it will need to be replaced.
