Heater not working but need to bleed

Post by ridders »

heater in cab not working. could live without it for a bit and wrap up.
question 1: reading the threads on cooling system bleeding they nearly all say turn on heater settinf the controls to hot. i need o bleed the system this weekend. can you do this without the heater on?
question 2: where to start with the heater? cant see an fuse blown (on the board behind glove box). read other posts about motors seizing but should i start with the switch first before stripping out the dash to replace the motor?

ummmm....... the heater works with or without the fan - i never use my fan (it does work) the airflow when moving is plenty..... are you saying your heater only blows cold air???

you need to switch the heater to hot to bleed the whole system.
If your heater is only blowing cold air, either the hot/cold switch isnt working, or you have a airlock in the heater .

1. check the wire is connected to the lever on the dash
2. check the wire is connected to the hot/cold valve under the van (above the spare wheel)
3. check the valve is actually working

the fan motor is a whole different thing.....
1. check the switch by substitution
2. the fuse , (are your window wiper working? if so fuse is ok)
3 . check the fan motor - often siezed - which either blows the fuse, and or the switch

thanks steve,

fan motor not operating. so by setting the lever to hot should be ok for bleeding the coolant system should it - providing everything is connected like you say? basically nothing coming out of vents when staionary on the drive. can't comment when driving yet.

yep, sounds like either the fan switch or the motor is F.u.B.a.R .
but its not really needed IMO, when moving the airflow puts pleny through.
these are not like modern cars where you have to have the fan on to get any heat.
