Clutch Query

Post by Robin! »

Hi folk,

Some of you may remember I put about a post about my van passing her MOT only for the clutch to go the next day.

Away to cut along story short, the van is up on the ramps and the gearbox is out, however my mechanic cant source a new clutch. He says it almost like it's a different gearbox or two clutches put together.

Has anyone experience this before on a 1.9 w/c T25? :? or can advise where I could purchase a clutch?

thanx
Robin

If your bloke can't source a new clutch , his parts supplier is obviously not trying,,,,even if your van has a mish mash of gearbox/bell housings/ spigot shafts all the components of the clutch can be bought bought seperately from any decent auto parts outlet...

Sounds like someone can't be bothered to do some cross referencing.......Then who's to say the one he has taken out is the right one in the first place...

they are all 228mm on the later petrol vans , some earlier ones used 215mm

cant see how you can go wrong , unless someone has fitted bay window clucth fork using the early release bearing!

measure the diameter of the center plate , and as long as there is a tube in th center of the bellhousibg , secured with 3 bolts that holds the seal in place the the bearing will be the same , even on beetles/bays/t25's

and yes photo would be great!

Well went to the garage to get photos, but he fitted one and it's fine. He said the clutch that came out looked like to different wants put together.
