Looking for good sites in the New Forest.

Hi, starting to make plans for this summer and I'm looking for nice campsites in and around the New Forest, any recommendations...Will also be making our way down South along the A43/A34, anywhere around Oxford worth a nights stop over?

Depends on what sort of site you are after

5 Star - indoor & out door pool, bar, restaurant, try Sandy Balls at least the name will make you smile

More basic try Forest Holidays.

Tom's Field, which is only open at weekends, has no electric and is quite basic, but the views are beautiful. http://www.tomsfield.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Have stayed on this one ourselves as The Rusty Bay Club have a couple of meets there every year.

Both these are just up the road from us.

There's The Red Shoot Campsite in Linwood: http://www.redshoot-campingpark.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Bev grew up just further down the road from there. Campsite has a shop. The Red Shoot Inn is right next door to it.

Or as rugchucker has said Forest Holidays sites.

Hi, had a look at Sandy Balls and it does sound good. Even better when somebody recommends it! Will have another look at Red Shoot too.

I'd recommend Red shoot as well. Went there last October for a weekend, great campsite, loads of walks on the doorstep and a pub at the entrance . What more could you ask for? Although I bet it'd get busy during the school hols.

Sandy Balls is pretty good, especially if you want onsite entertainment and take-away/bar/restaurant stuff.

Just off A34 is http://www.diamondfarmcaravanpark.co.uk/home/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it's about 5 miles from where I grew up and we stayed there with my Dad during his weekend visits. There's a nice village pub about 3 miles up the road in Bletchingdon called The Blacks Head.

Can't actually believe that it's been about 25yrs since I stayed @ Diamond Farm, I tell ya the toilets look a bloody site nicer than they used to be LOL!

I would also recommend Forest Holidays Holmsley. It's in a nice spot, quiet, and there's a lot of space.

Sandy Balls has always been booked up when I've called, so might be an idea to book it well in advance if you want to go there.

Thanks for that, have had a good look at sandy balls and the only thing that puts me off, is the hard standings I'm a grass man, hate gravel, its like camping on a car park lol.

Red shoot site looks good and it's open early March, sounds perfect specially tea and a night in the Red shoot inn, and as I'm into may mountain biking there's lot of tracks to ride.

Any good sites on the IoW??

Diamond Farm is nice, stayed there for a night last year. Nice facilites, quiet, decent pub a mile up the road and quite the most impressive array of roadkill on the way to the village.

Be prepared that Sunday nights could be incredibly noisy in the Red Shoot as they have live bands playing. The pub always got really busy as people come from miles around for band nights. I presume that they haven't stopped this but as I haven't lived in Linwood for a few years now I'm not certain. They also have a quiz night on either a Tuesday or a Wednesday from memory if quizes are your thing. Prizes aren't bad either.

The pub is a brewery too and brews a few of it's own ales. You can see the brewery through a glass window which they have installed.

The site is nice site and is always packed out in the summer which isn't to everyone's liking. It's been run by the same family since I can remember (so many years). There are loads of really good walks and cycle paths around there.

Have a lot of really good childhood memories of Linwood as my mum's side of the family originate from there.
