Cheap fridge upgrade mod

Basically the fridge on 12v takes ages to be of any use this is beciase it struggles to dissipate the heat that gathers as it rises. the more cool air you can get circulating at the back of the fridge the more efficient it will become. You can buy kits from caravan dealers but they charge the earth you can do them for less than £15!

Get a twin fan set like this, and fit it to the inside of the vent grill for the van with zip ties (make sure you fit it the correct way round) connect it with suitable wiring for a 12v system you can add an in-line fuse if you like, Now at this stage you can do one of 2 things, either wire it straight into the back of the 12v switch so that it only works on 12v or add another toggle on/off swith so you can also use it with gas/240v

If you add 1 at the botton vent to draw in air and 1 to blow it out you will really have the fridge working much better

Obviously this mod only applies to campers from circa 1986> because earlier campers >1985 didn't have the big fridge grilles, they only had the small 4''x4'' Electrolux flue vent.

mines a 1980 and it has the large rectangular grills top and bottom.

Also be aware that they are very exposed to rain especialy the bottom onbe from road water splashes

awesome... but seems like a hasle.

Wired right into the 12v supply should take about 1hr tops just remember to put the bottom fan so that the fans draw the air in and the top fan blows out.

I only ever run my fridge in summer to cold in winter to bother wasting gas plus if you freeze the stuff thats going in there no need to even have it on 12v on the way camping etc! I can see the idea of fitting fans but to much like hard work!
