Fitting pop-top into transporter (T25)

I am planning to live in my T25 (1987, 1.6 diesel). could really do with the extra space for standing up/storage.
Any tips on the best type of pop-top roof to install?
how much this is lkely to cost/ what is the cheapest way of doing this?
does this alteration affect insurance or the overall structural integrity of the vehicle?

any tips on how to go about fitting one?

best have a look in the wiki , up on the top of the page , also try using the search engine , Its been done loads of times , but if i was planning living in the van i'd be looking at fitting a hightop extra usable space , again look in the wiki and use the search , timbertech will do you a good deal

Theres loads of pop top out there the best bet would hunt out pictures of different ones or have a look round at shows and see what sort you like, i have had 2 different pop tops on mine and now i have a high top each to there own, loads more storage up there !

Think I'd opt for a high top if planning to live in it, or even better, swap it for an LT - loads more room!

Or a cheap C ara van ... you can have the satisfaction of destroying it then when you've finished with it

Depends where you're planning on living, if it's somewhere warm, get a good tunnel awning and just use the van to kip in
If it's the UK get an Eber or make sure there's leccy for a fan heater

well for warmth i was thinking of fitting a small wood burner. my dad has done this in his van and its great!

Haven't personally fitted a woodburner in anything smaller than a 1950s Bedford coach and that got unbearably hot!! If you make one out of the littlest size Calor cannister it could work, but a T25 is a very small space to heat and not many places to put one. Be interested to see how you get on with that one though. Pretty much evryone on here seems to swear by Ebers ,Propex etc. but I have to admit I'm always interested in different ideas.
How about a generator and hook up the van to that to run a leccy heater ? It all depends I guess on where you intend park it. Hve you got a site sorted or are you looking at going on the road full time?

thanks for all the advice. yeah i know its quite a small space.. i will investigate, try things out and see how it goes. i will be parking up in a mixture of near-friends-houses-in-city places aswell as in countryside. hope to move about a bit but also stay in one place a while.
