DJ Engine Oil Leak

Post by mattnbrown »

Hi,
I am just after a few suggestions but I have an oil leak on my 2.1 DJ engine.. it wasnt anything major to start with but now it seems it is loosing about 1/2 litre every 100miles.

Oil is accumulating just below the crank pulley near where I think the oil pump is.. its just running down the engine mount and dripping onto the floor but Not being thrown about or anything.

Any ideas where this may be coming from its a bit hard to get to, to see for sure?

Many Thanks,
Matt.

I wouldn't have thought the engine would have to come out for a pulley end crankshaft seal :?: Just the pulley off in situe.

Check the crankcase breather hoses....
If they get blocked or colapse oil gets pushed out.

Where is the oil cooler on these?

I just about managed to get a photo that shows where the oil is collecting, directly below the crank&water pump pulleys.

but where is it coming from, as CJ says the most likely source is the back of the oil cooler where it mates with the block, if not there then it will be the rear main seal, you need to get underneath with a good light to look up and see the highest point of leakage..

It's sandwiched between the oil filter and the engine block.
