Misfire when cold - Fine when warm

Post by Bond007 »

Bit of history first.

Had Gas conversion end of November and it was running well on both fuels.
Didn't use petrol for about a month, apart from initial starting. Tried running it on petrol and it 'kangarood' above 3000rpm.
Didn't worry about it too much and just put it on my 'to do' list when the weather warms up.
On my way into work a couple of weeks ago, going uphill from 2nd to 3rd gear under quite hard accelaration, and had an almighty backfire, then ran on 3 cylinders. I nursed it into work, about 3 miles. Had a look around and checked the plugs at dinnertime and didn't find anything untoward except for slighlty sooty plugs. Ran fine on the way home, on both fuels.
Since then, about 2 weeks now, it runs on 3 cylinders until it's warmed up, then it's fine.
Got a new set of HT leads and plugs, dizzy cap and rotor, still the same. Got some Holts wet start protection, as I thought it could be a damp problem, and gave all the electricals a good spray treatment. Still the same.

Got me confused has this one :?

Anyone had a similar problem, or give any advice as what to check next?

does it only start up on petrol?

could be a iffy injector damaged by the backfire, or the loom......

is it only on petrol? it does it, or on both?

I was told to only start it up on petrol before switching to gas, so that's what I do.

If I switch it to gas before it's warm it misfires. The same as on petrol.

After about 5 to 10 min's running it runs perfectly, on gas and petrol.

Best way of checking an injector?

is the misfiring on LPG the same as on petrol, ie only recently started doing it??

it could be more to do with the "choke" side of things, have you checked the airflow meter connections, and the other connetions nearby, throttle body ect?

dont think its injector if its doing it on LPG too.....

prob best to give steve a shout, he knows his stuff
