Speedo again

Post by Dartmoor »

My speedo had stopped working, and so there were some useful responses last time I asked. Mine is a 1981 LHD 2 litre a/c. We did indeed find that the cable was not properly attached to the hub thingy - so it was re-bedded in, and a proper circlip applied (the previous one was missing or broken. Now the next frustration - the speed indicator moves up as you accelerate - a little slowly - BUT it won't come back down again properly! It comes down in jumps only when you pull to a halt. So this is not going to pass the MOT! Any ideas? I am pretty sure the cable itself is ok.

Its not an mot failure I've taken mini sin for Mot's with a non working speedo,

Could be worth checking the cable its self, ensure its well lubed

Will do. Interesting re MOT - just googled that question - opinion is very split on whether its an MOT issue or not. Apparently some testers would record a fail, others won't look at it! I will have to find an understanding one! I am not too worried about not having a speedo - I mean 'speed' and this van is not an issue! I doubt I could get it above 70mph on the flat. And I potter round towns at low speed anyway.

nothing to do with mot,
would you like your mot tester making sure your speedo works all the way round to 100mph?

Thanks for the first sentence. The second sounds sarcastic and discourteous - no need for it on forums!

Think you are taking it wrong mate. I see no sarcasm or discourtesy. Maybe a litte banter as none of our vans will to 100mph
